Replying to a supplementary question posed by Salahuddin Ayub (Kubang Kerian-PAS) yesterday, Lajim said the ministry had taken into account the expertise of the companies that offered to implement the project. “This is a big project and need expertise that can carry out the job well and is able to fulfill the standards required.”
Earlier, Lajim could not provide an answer when asked why the project was not implemented through private finance initiative.
He also told the House that the RM12.48 billion price tag was based on design and build. The contract which stipulated that the project to be carried out within five years from January 2008 also included works such as building tracks, stations, electrification and yard.
